Privacy Policy

Akshara is a Sinhala keyboard and input method available for iOS, macOS, and Android.
Your privacy is important to us. Akshara is designed to work locally on your device and does not collect, transmit, sell, share, or otherwise process your personal information on our servers.
1. Information We Collect
Akshara does not collect personal information. We do not collect text you type, keystrokes, passwords, messages, clipboard contents, names, contact information, location, device or advertising identifiers, usage analytics, browsing activity, search history, IP addresses, or account information. Akshara does not require an account.
2. Keyboard Input and Typed Content
Akshara processes keyboard input locally on your device to provide Sinhala text input, layouts, composition, suggestions, predictions, and related functionality. Text typed using Akshara is not transmitted to Akshara or servers operated by us. Any predictions or learned suggestions are processed locally on your device.
3. Local Data
Akshara may store limited information locally when necessary, including keyboard preferences, selected layouts, application settings, locally learned keyboard or prediction information, and other configuration required for the keyboard to operate. This information remains on your device and is not automatically transmitted to us. You can generally remove it by clearing app data, resetting settings, or uninstalling Akshara.
4. Internet and Cloud Services
Akshara does not use a cloud-based keyboard processing service. Keyboard input is not sent to our servers and is not used for advertising, profiling, analytics, marketing, AI or machine-learning training, selling, or sharing. Core keyboard functionality is designed to operate locally.
5. iOS Keyboard and “Full Access”
Apple may display an “Allow Full Access” option for third-party keyboards. Enabling this permission does not mean Akshara collects or transmits what you type. Akshara does not use Full Access to send input, messages, passwords, or other typed content to its servers. Secure and password fields may use Apple’s system keyboard, as controlled by iOS.
6. Android Keyboard
On Android, Akshara operates as an Input Method Editor (IME). Android may display system warnings because keyboards can technically access text entered through them. Akshara does not use this access to collect, upload, monitor, or share typed content. Required processing occurs locally on your device.
7. macOS Input Method
The macOS version of Akshara processes input locally to convert keyboard input into Sinhala text. Akshara does not transmit text entered using the macOS input method to us.
8. Diagnostics and Crash Information
Akshara does not automatically send diagnostic information containing typed content. Some versions of Akshara or the operating system may maintain diagnostic or crash information locally. If Akshara offers an option to export or share diagnostics, information is not transmitted unless you deliberately choose to share it. Apple, Google, device manufacturers, and operating-system providers may separately collect diagnostics under their own policies.
9. Third-Party Analytics and Advertising
Akshara does not include third-party advertising or analytics services. We do not sell personal information or share it with advertisers, data brokers, or marketing companies.
10. App Stores and Operating Systems
Apple, Google, or another platform provider may independently collect information about downloads, purchases, devices, crash reports, or store usage. That collection is governed by the provider’s privacy policy and is outside Akshara’s control. Akshara does not receive your typed keyboard content from these services.
11. Children’s Privacy
Because Akshara does not knowingly collect personal information, we do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If our practices change, this Privacy Policy will be updated.
12. Data Sharing
Akshara does not sell, rent, trade, or share user data because Akshara does not collect user data. There is no Akshara user database containing keyboard input or personal information.
13. Data Retention
Because we do not collect or store personal information on our servers, we do not maintain server-side personal data that needs to be retained or deleted. Information stored locally remains under your control.
14. Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update this policy if Akshara’s functionality or privacy practices change. If a future version collects or transmits user information, this policy will clearly disclose what is collected, why, and how it is handled. The effective date will be updated whenever the policy is materially revised.
15. Free Software and Disclaimer
Akshara is provided free of charge and “as is”, without warranties or guarantees of any kind, to the extent permitted by applicable law. This does not affect the privacy commitments described here.
